Courses meeting general education requirements may also be used to fulfill distribution requirements.

I. FUNDAMENTAL LITERACIES
Students must complete one course from each of the following five areas as designated in the Schedule of Classes.
► Writing I*
  • ENG-W 131 Elementary Composition (Recommend taking with COAS-Q110; linked sections available) OR
  • ENG-W 140 Honors Elementary Composition (Recommend taking with COAS-Q110; linked sections available)
► Writing II*
  • Approved courses or courses designated as "LAS Second Level Writing" in the Schedule of Classes
► Oral Communication*
  • SPCH-S 121 Public Speaking
► Quantitative Reasoning*
► Computer Literacy*
II. COMMON CORE
Students must complete one course at the 300-level from one of the following four areas as designated in the Schedule of Classes.  Note that 300-level Common Core courses may have as prerequisite the completion of one or more of the Fundamental Literacies requirements, and in some cases, other prerequisites may also apply.
The Natural World
  • N190/N390 in:  Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Math, Physics
Human Behavior & Social Institutions
  • B190/B399 in:  Anthropology, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Women's Studies
Literary & Intellectual Traditions
  • T190/T390 in:  English, Comparative Literature, French, German, History, History & Philosophy of Science, Philosophy, Spanish
Art, Aesthetics & Creativity
  • A190/A399 in:  Fine Arts, Theater, English, Music, Comparative Literature
III.  CONTEMPORARY SOCIAL VALUES
Students must complete one course from each of the following two areas as designated in the Schedule of Classes.
► Non-Western Cultures*
► Diversity in U.S. Society*
IV. GENERAL STUDIES
Students must complete each of the following courses.
► Introduction to General Studies*
Must be completed either before admission or within the first 12 credits after admission to the General Studies Degree Program.
► Senior Capstone Seminar*
Must be completed within the final semester.
   
Requirements designated with an asterisk * must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or higher to satisfy the requirement for BGS majors.
