Is it too late to apply for the fall semester?
No. We process applications until the first day of class. Applications received after the first day of class are processed on an individual basis.

How long does it take to process my application?
The Office of Admissions processes applications on a daily basis. As a general rule, we make admission decisions within five business days of receiving a completed application. Delays may occur if we are experiencing a significant increase in application volume or if the application is received more than one year prior to the start of a term. Admission decisions are communicated to applicants through the U.S. mail.

How can I obtain an admissions packet?
Students can request an admissions packet online at http://www.iusb.edu/~admissio/request.shtml by calling (574) 520-4839, or by visiting the Information Center: Gateway to Excellence in the Administration Building lobby.

Can I be admitted without taking the SAT or ACT?
Yes, but students who have been out of high school for less than three years must take the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) and submit their scores to the Office of Admissions before the end of their first semester at IU South Bend.

How do my credits transfer?
Visit http://www.iusb.edu/~admissio/trancredit.shtml to review our current transfer practices.

Can I register before my credits are evaluated?
Yes, after you are offered admission, your academic advisor can use a photocopy of your transcript(s) to advise you until your credits are posted to your student record.

Can I change my admit date?
Yes. Please call the Office of Admissions at (574) 520-4839.

What information can you give to a parent?

  • We can confirm or deny the receipt of an application.
  • If the application is incomplete, we can say what materials and/or documents are missing.
  • We can say the date on which we mailed the admission packet to the applicant.

What does probation mean?
Students admitted on probation do not meet all of the admission criteria. At the discretion of the academic unit, students admitted on probation may be required to enroll in U100, maintain a 2.0 grade point average during the first semester at IU South Bend, and/or enroll in a maximum number of credit hours.

What does stipulated mean?
Students admitted as stipulated meet the admission criteria, but have not provided the Office of Admissions official or final transcripts. Stipulated admits are not eligible for financial aid and their transfer credits are not posted to their student record until their admission status is updated.
