Office of Campus Diversity do?
The Office of Campus Diversity helps stimulate, promote, and support a hospitable environment for underrepresented students, faculty, and staff.
How does your office impact students?
The establishment, coordination, and implementation of the efforts of the
Office of Campus Diversity directly impacts student enrollment, retention, and graduation.
Who does your office serve?
Our office serves underrepresented students, faculty, and staff.
What are some factors of diversity?
There are many factors of diversity including race, ethnicity, culture, gender, age, nontraditional
standing, sexual orientation/gender identity, disability, first-generation college student, religion, veteran
status, immigrant status, and class.
What does the office offer to students?
- An office that is open and available to IU South Bend students, faculty, and staff as well as community members
- Information, resources, and diversity training for the campus community
- Conferences and development seminars
- A campus/community diversity committee
- Referrals to other IU South Bend offices on issues such as discrimination, health, employment, safety, and more
- Programs to promote campus dialogue on issues
pertaining to the acceptance and celebration of diversity
What support does your office offer?
Besides guest lectures and diversity workshops, our office supports the following groups:
the Black Student Union, the Latino Student Union, the American Indian Student Union,
the Gay/Straight Alliance, STAAR (Students Together Able and Respected),
the Feminist Student Union, the International Student
Organization, the Student Government
Association, the Judicial Council, and the Gender Project.
What faculty services do you offer?
- Guest lecturers and classroom workshops
- Resources and problem-solving for diversity issues and curriculum development
- New Faculty Orientation
What do you offer the campus and the community?
The office supports a Diversity Committee, an Hispanic Heritage Month Committee, Pride Week,
an Asian/Pacific Islander Committee, the Making the Academic Connection program,
the IUSB Civil Rights Heritage Center, and Mission Differentiation.
