How do I become a member of the
Student Activities Center?
All current students are members of the Student Activities Center (SAC) as long as they are enrolled in classes at IU South Bend. Faculty/staff have an opportunity to purchase a
membership at the reduced rate of $20/month or $200/year. Faculty/staff
may buy an additional membership at the same rate for one household member over 18. IU South Bend
alumni who are members of the local
alumni association have the opportunity to buy a
SAC
membership at the rate of $30/month or $300/year. Alumni members
may buy an additional SAC
membership at the same rate for one household member over 18. Contact Angela
M. Klontz for more information on memberships at (574) 520-4587.
Can I bring a friend?
Each member is permitted to bring one guest for a daily fee of $5. The guest must leave the
facility when the member leaves. Each person that enters the
facility must have a completed waiver on file.
What is available in the
SAC?
There are two basic areas of the SAC, restricted areas that require passage through the
front desk, and unrestricted areas to which all have access. There is unrestricted access to the meeting rooms,
student life offices, publications office, the
Health and Wellness Center, the administrative offices, the
student lounge, the
Courtside Café, restrooms, and the lobbies. Restricted access areas include the
fitness center, upper level track, the
billiards /
table tennis
(game) room, the
group fitness rooms, the locker rooms, the
racquetball courts, and the
competition courts.
Is equipment available?
Equipment, such as basketballs, volleyballs, billiards equipment, table tennis paddles, weight belts, racquetball equipment, etc., is available free for checkout with your valid IU South Bend ID.
Do I need to reserve exercise equipment or court space?
Currently, reservations are not required. As use of the
facility increases, a reservation system may be put in place.
Can I bring my children into the
SAC?
Members may bring their children under the age of 18 only during
family hours, which are on Saturdays and Sundays
from 1-4 p.m., when the
facility is not
being used for other activities. The
fitness center is not available to anyone under 18 at any time. There are age-appropriate games and activities that you can request at the front desk. There is no guest fee required for the children of members during
family hours.
Are the meeting rooms available for rent?
Yes. Contact the events coordinator at (574) 520-5111.
Is the court area available for rent?
Yes, based upon availability. Contact the events coordinator at
(574) 520-5111.
Is parking available?
Everyone pays a fee to park at IU South Bend. Students, faculty, and staff typically have made arrangements for parking.
Alumni
members of the
SAC may purchase
parking at a reduced rate from the
Office of Parking Services. Guests or infrequent users may purchase a daily
parking token at the
front desk for $2, which permits parking in the
visitor lot.
Group Fitness Classes
Do I have to pay anything to take the
group fitness classes?
The cost is
$35.00 for a semester pass which allows you into all classes; or you can purchase a single pass
for $2.00 which allows you to take one class one time.
Where do I get a schedule of the
group fitness
classes?
http://www.iusb.edu/~sbsac/groupfitness.shtml or at the front desk of the
SAC
What if I have never taken a
group fitness class before, will I be able to keep up? We have classes appropriate for any level of fitness. Instructors are trained to consider individual differences.
Do I have to be a
member of the
SAC to take classes?
Yes. To attend fitness classes, each person must pass through the control turnstile. Only members or guests of members ($5 fee) may enter the restricted areas.
Intramural
Sports
How do I get involved in
intramural
sports? There are several ways to get involved in
intramurals
- Find an event or sport in which you wish to participate and register
*Some sports are individual and others are team sports. If you are interested in a team sport, you should put together a team with other classmates, faculty/staff, or eligible
SAC members from our campus.
- If you do not know enough people on campus to put together a team, you can sign up as a free agent and we will do our best to place you on a team.
- Become an
intramural official and scorekeeper.
How and when do I register for
intramurals?
The
intramural
calendar lists registration start and due dates. You can begin registering on the start date and the last day to register is the due date. You register by bringing the entry fee to the front desk of the
SAC. There, you fill out the registration form and pay the entry fee.
How much are the entry fees?
Twenty-five dollars for team sports and $5 for individual and dual sports
On what nights are games played? This depends on the availabilities of the teams. When you register you
are asked to complete an availability form for your team. After teams
are registered, we will determine what night or nights are best for competition. You will receive your schedule and rules at the MANDATORY captains' meeting. Captain meeting dates and times are also listed on the
calendar.
How do I get a calendar? You can get the calendar off the
Web site and check out updates by going to
http://www.iusb.edu/~sbsac/intramuralsched.shtml or by picking one up at the front desk of the
SAC.
How do I become an
intramural
official and are officials paid? To become an
intramural official, all you have to do is
complete an application and ask for the
assistant director of recreation at the
SAC administrative offices
in Student Activities Center
130. You do not need to have previous officiating experience, we
will train. Intramural officials start out at $8 per hour.
