Media Duplication
IMS duplicates audio and video recordings for classroom instructional use, subject to the following restrictions:
- The user (faculty or staff member) must assume responsibility to use the materials in accordance with the
federal fair-use copyright guidelines.
- Media Services reserves the right to review and question the legality of any requests concerning the
reproduction of copyrighted materials.
- No materials from video rental stores, the Indiana University Film/Video Library, other Indiana University
libraries or other film/video libraries may be copied.
- Large or unusual orders are subject to the approval of the director of IMS.
- The user provides the blank tape stock.
Recording Services
IMS routinely provides recording services, including archival recording of special events, video or audio recording
of lectures, in-class role-playing, teaching evaluations, and short videos showing demonstrations or explanations.
Typically, these are taped on VHS with no editing. In most cases, IMS will provide video recording equipment for any
classroom event but typically does not provide a camera operator.
Video Production
IMS provides consultation on the development of video projects. In some cases, arrangements may be made with the
School of the Arts or outside vendors to complete the production. Video post-production work (such as editing,
voice-overs, titling, etc.) or multi-camera is generally not provided by IMS.
Other Production
IMS does not provide production or reproduction of traditional audiovisual media, such as overhead transparencies,
matting or mounting of graphics, or photography for ceremonies, pubic-relations, athletics, and so on. Consult the
Learning Resource Center for assistance.
