What does the VPN do?

Wireless access at IU South Bend – If you have a laptop or Pocket PC with Wireless capability, you need a VPN connection to confirm you are a member of the IU South Bend community in order receive a valid network connection on your device.  If your computer can connect to “IU South Bend Wireless”, you only need to login through the VPN to get full network access.

Resource access from home – If you want to access network drives from home you can do so by first establishing a VPN connection.  You do not get any drives mapped by default, but you can access the servers and browse to your “network drives”.   The location of these drives and instructions for mapping them can be found in the document “Mapping Network Drives”, available from the IT Helpdesk.  More info can also be found on the IT website http://www.iusb.edu/~sbit under the heading of phone, internet, and video connections.

Disclaimer:  Information Technologies may not be able to troubleshoot problems you have at home or on your laptop with VPN setup and functionality.  There are unlimited possibilities for problems with home computers - we cannot troubleshoot these problems for all of the faculty, staff, and students of IU South Bend.     The IT Helpdesk can be reached by phone at 574-520-5555 for assistance.
