Basic Information
- URL Address: The URL for your personal website will be http://mypage.iusb.edu/~username where 'username' is your IU Network ID.
- SFTP Address: If you plan to use SFTP to transfer your files to your MyPage personal website, use the server address of mypage.iusb.edu.
- 'html' Directory: All files that are to be displayed through your MyPage personal website must be contained in a subdirectory called 'html' which should be located off of your root directory. For example, a user may have a home root directory of /home2/jdoe; therefore, their web files must be placed in /home2/jdoe/html.

How to Publish to MyPage
When publishing to 'mypage', you should be using SFTP. SFTP stands for 'secure file transfer protocol' and it keeps your information encrypted as it comes across the network. You can use SFTP either on or off campus whether you are using broadband or the IU Network. A SFTP client is available from iuware.iu.edu. Use the hostname "mypage.iusb.edu" when using your SFTP application.
Can I use FTP? For now, yes; however, FTP will eventually be retired. Regular FTP sends your information (including your password) unencrypted across the network. This means that if you use broadband or any other non-IU network access, your username and password could be compromised by someone monitoring the network traffic. So, for now, you can use FTP; however it does require you to make a VPN connection to the IU Network first. By connecting through VPN, your username and password is encrypted from your machine up to our VPN servers. If you are on campus, you can use FTP without VPN; however, keep in mind it will eventually go away so why not learn SFTP while you have the time?
What about Frontpage? For now, you can still use the publish feature in Frontpage; however, this will eventually be retired. Why? Frontpage uses FTP, see the section above labeled 'Can I use FTP'. When using the publish function of frontpage, use the URL of "ftp://mypage.iusb.edu/html" (keep in mind FTP will eventually be retired).
Is there a better way to Publish? Dreamweaver 2004 and newer supports SFTP natively. This means that you can 'put' your site on the network without using a seperate application.
