Introduction to the MLS Program

About the Master of Liberal Studies Program at IUSB

The Master of Liberal Studies (MLS) program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences provides opportunities, at the graduate level, to engage your curiosity in an intellectual exploration of the world of ideas. However, the rewards of the pursuit of knowledge go beyond intellectual satisfaction. You will gain a refreshed approach to an enriched personal and professional life through a program that reinvigorates your curiosity and creativity. You'll gain fresh perspectives and the critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills so valued in today's workplace.

One of the most important features is the capstone project that students complete at the end of the program. Here graduate students fulfill a personal ambition, explore a favorite topic or issue more deeply, create a work of art, build something that contributes to the community, strengthen a career credential, or otherwise put the mark of their own passion and curiosity on their MLS degree.

To learn more about the remarkable capstone projects MLS students have completed in recent years, to request a folder of materials about the program including a list of the fresh seminar  topics being offered next semester, to schedule an informational conference with the director, or to apply, contact Ken Smith, MLS Director, by email at ksmith@iusb.edu or phone at 574-520-4173.
