General Policies
In addition to policies described under the admission criteria of the School of Nursing, the following policies govern master's study in particular:
- Transfer of Credits: Students must obtain the consent of the Admission, Progression and Graduation (APG) Committee before credit earned at other institutions may be added to the official transcript. A maximum of nine (9) credit hours with a minimum grade of B in courses that fulfill the curriculum requirements may be transferred from an accredited college or university with the consent of the Admission, Progression and Graduation (APG) Committee. Credits used to meet requirements for the BSN may not be used toward the MSN degree.
- Admission of Students on Academic Probation: Students with an undergraduate GPA lower than 3.0 may be admitted on academic probation upon the endorsement of the Admission, Progression and Graduation (APG) Committee.
- Degree Requirements: Candidates must meet all the requirements of the MSN program and currently be enrolled to graduate.
All candidates for the MSN degree must fulfill the following requirements:
- Complete a minimum of 42 credit hours of courses. Courses meeting the requirement of advanced nursing practice must be taken in or through IU South Bend School of Nursing.
- Remove all conditions, deficiencies, probation, deferred or incomplete grades.
- Achieve a 3.0 GPA by the time the student has completed 42 credit hours of course work, as required for graduation. Credit hours toward the degree are not granted for courses with a grade below B-. All grades are included in computing the grade point average (GPA).
- Complete all degree requirements within six (6) years of the date the student begins course work.
- Apply for the degree at the time of program planning for the final semester of study. Reapplication must occur if the graduation date changes.
Indiana University South Bend, School of Nursing, is not responsible for certification for the degree if the student fails to file the application.
Program Fees: Students will be responsible for paying any program fees by the due date. Nonpayment may result in administrative withdrawal from coursework.
