Alan H. Cohen, co-founder of the Finish Line, Inc., will be the Executive-in-Residence at Indiana University South Bend on April 13 and 14. Cohen will speak on leadership, organizational change, buyer behavior and general business concepts to a graduate class and three undergraduate classes in the School of Business and Economics.

Cohen also served as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the Finish Line until 1982. The Finish Line, which had sales of $757 million last year, is a specialty retailer in men’s, women’s and children’s brand name athletic shoes, athletic apparel and accessories. The company currently operates more than 530 stores in 46 states and employees more than 11,000.
Since 1976, Cohen has been involved in the athletic retail business originally as principal co founder of Athletic Enterprises, Inc., which was merged into the Finish Line, Inc., at the time of the public offering in 1992.
Cohen received his undergraduate degree from the Indiana University, School of Business, in 1969, and his law degree in 1973 from Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis.
He is a member of the Board of Visitors for Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis, the Dean’s Advisory Council, Indiana University Kelley School of Business, as well as Board of Advisors for the Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Kelley School of Business.
Cohen also serves as a National Trustee of Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs of America. He is a member of the Board of Director of the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce and as a director for the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership.
In 1996, he received the Distinguished Alumni Service Award from Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis, and the Distinguished Entrepreneur Award from the Kelley School of Business, Bloomington.
He was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst and Young, and Inc. Magazine in 1991, and Retail Executive of the Year by Sporting Goods Business Magazine in 2003.
