The issue of gay marriage will be the topic of a discussion and movie on Monday, April 11, at Indiana University South Bend.

The documentary “Freedom to Marry” will be shown at 7 p.m. in Room 1001, Wiekamp Hall. The 57-minute film follows a number of same-sex marriage ceremonies in California. The film has won praise and received awards in the gay community.

Following the movie, Davina Kotulaski will have a presentation followed by a question and answer period. Kotulski is a clinical psychologist and author of “Why You Should Give A Damn About Gay Marriage.” She has deep roots in the freedom to marry movement from fighting the anti-gay Knight Initiative, to her work with Californians for Same Sex Marriage, Marriage Equality California and the Freedom to Marry Coalition. She is currently the statewide project manager for Marriage Equality California and the deputy executive director of Marriage Equality USA.

Kotulski and her wife, Molly McKay, were the 17th couple married in San Francisco last year and together have received the Saints Alive Award from the Metropolitan Community Church of San Francisco for their work.

The event is sponsored by the Gay Straight Alliance, Campus Diversity and Titan Productions. The event is free and open to the general public.
