Professor John McIntosh, associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and professor of psychology at Indiana University South Bend, has been named to the position of associate vice chancellor for academic affairs at IU South Bend.

He begins his new duties on July 1, replacing the retiring Linda Fritschner.

A native of Covington, Ky., he received his master's degree and doctorate from the University of Notre Dame. His undergraduate degree is from Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, Ky.

McIntosh began as a lecturer at IU South Bend in 1979. He became an assistant professor in 1981, received tenure and a promotion to associate professor in 1985, and full professor in 1992.

He is nationally known as a expert in suicide and has received numerous awards for his research including the Lundquist Faculty Fellowship, IUSB Distinguished Research Award, the Roger Tierney Award for Service from the American Association of Suicidology and the Schneideman Award from the American Association of Suicidology (for research and scholarly contributions to the field of suicidology by a person under the age of 40).
