Center for the Homeless Announces Major Fundraiser
A major fundraising initiative is now underway for the Center for the Homeless. In partnership with the Student Government Association of Indiana University South Bend, Dance for the Homeless is a 24-hour dance marathon, noon to noon, April 19 and 20. Several hundred dancers are expected to participate from across Michiana.
Dance for the Homeless is an event where dancers will remain on their feet for 24 straight hours to show support for our homeless population in a fun and entirely off-the-wall way. Each dancer will have had successfully raised funds for the Center for the Homeless to be a part of this incredible event. Participants must remain standing throughout. While dancing will be a fun part of the marathon, other activities at the event do not require dancing – live bands, computer access, video game competitions, sports tourneys, socializing and plenty of eating. 10 meals will be served.
Admission to a shorter session (6 p.m. to midnight) is $50 for a Miracle Pass that up to 10 people can share. Admission to the marathon is $100 if you're younger than 18, $250 if you're older.
"By hosting a dance marathon, the SGA is eager to bring the community together – including the colleges and universities in Michiana – support this cause and raise awareness of homelessness right here in our neighborhood," said Aleah Wilburn, student senator at IUSB and co-coordinator of the event.
Corporate sponsors will cover the cost of operating the marathon, enabling 100 percent of the proceeds to directly benefit The Center for the Homeless.
The Center is home to 200 people on any given day, including nearly 60 children. For more information, tours and interviews for Dance for the Homeless, please call Jacqueline Kronk at 574-282-8700, or visit the website danceforthehomeless.com.
