Starting a business or taking it to the next level, Indiana University South Bend’s School of Business and Economics will give you expert guidance.

The School of Business and Economics along with sponsor Lake City Bank will present the Entrepreneurship Lecture Series through the fall semester. This is the third year for these outstanding presentations on the many facets of the business world. The 10 lectures will showcase many of the area’s premier business organizations and their chief executives.

Although the series is part of a graduate level class, each lecture is free and open to the public. Following the 7 p.m. talk, several of the speakers will join the students in small-group discussions.

Each speaker will delve into an aspect of entrepreneurship. The first speaker, Mark Tarner, president of South Bend Chocolate, will present “A Framework for Entrepreneurship, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8. All lectures will be in Room 1001, Wiekamp Hall.

The dates, speakers, companies and topics are: Sept., 15, Rick Singleton, president of Studio A, “Resources and Capabilities”; Sept. 22, George Witwer, president and CEO of Humanizing Technologies, “The E-Entrepreneur”; Sept. 29, M. Scott Welch, CEO of Welch Packaging, “Entrepreneurial Strategies”; Oct. 6, Jim Powers, engagement executive of Crowe, Chizek and Company LLC, “The Business Plan”; Oct. 20, John Regan, president of Fabric Services, “The Environmental Entrepreneur”; Oct. 27, Thomas Hiatt, managing partner of Centerfield Capital Partners, “Foundations of New Venture Finance”; Nov. 3, Michael Kubacki, president of Lake City Bank, “Securing Investors and Structuring the Deal”; Nov. 10, Robert Bartels Jr., president and CEO of Martin’s Supermarket, “Creating the Organization’; Nov. 17, Dan Fitzpatrick, president and CEO of Quality Dining, “Corporate Venturing, Networking and Franchising.”

There is no lecture on Oct. 13. The IU South Bend Alumni Association will host a reception preceding the Nov. 3 lecture from 6:30 to 7 p.m.
