Indiana University South Bend is taking several steps to prepare for the influx of students enrolling for classes for the fall semester which begins August 29.

Extended hours will begin on Saturday, August 20, when academic advisors and representatives from the admissions, registrar, bursar, and financial aid offices will be available from 9 a.m. to noon. From Monday, August 22 through Friday, September 2, IU South Bend staff and advisors serving current and incoming students will be available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

The IU South Bend book store, located in Northside Hall, will also be open during those extended hours.

IU South Bend is also implementing a new one-stop information gateway in the lobby of the Administration Building to help streamline the enrollment process and provide personal assistance for students. Over the summer the lobby and adjacent wings were remodeled to provide a more efficient and student-focused experience. The lobby contains an information desk for frontline assistance, in addition to greeters and escorts to help guide visitors to the proper area to receive help. Eleven computer kiosks also are available. To make service more convenient for visitors, Student Services now occupies the east wing adjacent to the lobby and the Enrollment Services is in the west wing.

IU South Bend is offering students an incentive to use the shuttle bus service to help alleviate the demand for parking on campus. Students will save up to $20 by purchasing a discounted parking permit to park at the Club Landing and ride the shuttle to campus. The shuttle will provide continuous service from the Club Landing at 1717 Lincolnway East to drop-off points on campus. Shuttle parking permits and student parking may be obtained at the Parking Services office located in the Administration Building. Students who already have a parking permit may exchange it for a shuttle parking permit and their account will be adjusted.

Three five-passenger vans will begin the routes at 8 a.m. and continue until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Shuttle service will begin on August 29, the first day of classes for the fall session.

Students also are encouraged to participate in TRANSPO’s 31-Day Student Pass Program which costs $25 a month. The bus service makes stops every half hour alongside IU South Bend on Mishawaka Avenue. The last daily stop is at 8:58 p.m.

Students planning to attend IU South Bend for the fall semester should register as soon as possible to help avoid last minute delays.
