IU SOUTH BEND ELKHART CENTER DEDICATION SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 29
Classes Begin August 27
The public is invited to the dedication ceremony for the Indiana University South Bend Elkhart Center. The outdoor dedication is scheduled at 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, at 125 E. Franklin St., in downtown Elkhart. The event will take place under a large tent across the street from the Elkhart Center. A reception will follow in an adjacent tent.
Indiana University President Michael McRobbie will preside at the ceremony. He will be joined by IU South Bend Chancellor Una Mae Reck, members of the IU Board of Trustees, students, faculty, elected officials, and Elkhart business and civic leaders.
Construction of the 25,000 square-foot facility is complete. Classrooms, laboratories and offices are now being prepared before the staff and faculty move into the facility. Classes begin there on August 27.
A group of Elkhart business leaders led by Art Decio and Bob Deputy have raised more the $4 million in private donations to pay for construction of the building and scholarships for Elkhart County residents. The building has 13 classrooms, a computer lab, a science lab and offices.
