Poetry inspired by the Book of Genesis will be read at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, in Room 1001, Wiekamp Hall, Indiana University South Bend. The works by 15 contemporary, prominent and emerging Israeli poets will be presented by guest translators Howard Schwartz and Jeff Friedman.
Schwartz and Friedman also will discuss and answer questions about the poetry, their translation project and writing from Biblical sources.
Schwartz is a faculty member in the Master's of Fine Arts Program at the University of Missouri, St. Louis. Friedman is a faculty member in the Master's of Fine Arts Program in Poetry, New England College, Henniker, N.H. Both men are widely published writers and poets. They have edited anthologies of secular and religious poetry and prose.
The evening is sponsored by the Examining Identity Project, the English Department, the Master of Liberal Studies Program, the Office of Academic Affairs and the Office of International Programs at IU South Bend.
