Visitors to the downtown Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library will be introduced to many of the secrets of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). “Genes and Your Health,” a traveling exhibit presenting the study of genes and what is in the future, is on display on the lower level of the downtown library.
The exhibit will remain at the library until April 10.
By interacting with a touch-screen, participants can learn how and why genes are studied and take an interactive quiz.
The exhibit, which was funded by Indiana University and the National Alliance for Alcohol Research, Inc., is geared for middle school students to adults.
The five-panel and stand alone table exhibit examines alcoholism and the study of rats, how a body process alcohol, different metabolisms, genetic mutations, and social factors and alcoholism.
Participants also will see how IU is working on cures for cancer, immune disorders, Alzheimer’s disease, bipolar disorder, Parkinson’s disease and osteoporosis. Visitors can select a disease to view a short video describing IU’s research in that field.
