“Jungle” Jason Jacobs, development director for the Potawatomi Zoological Society, will share his travel experiences from a recent trip to Africa during a presentation at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 28, in Room 1001, Wiekamp Hall, Indiana University South Bend.
The cost is $5 for zoo members and IU South Bend students, faculty or staff and families, and $6 for the general public. All proceeds go towards the zoo’s exhibit fund.
Over the past 6 months, he has traveled extensively throughout Southern Africa viewing wildlife in the nations of Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Jacobs will present photographs and video of many African species including elephants, rhinoceros, giraffes, lions, wild dogs and hippos.
Jacobs will present his insights and feelings about being charged by an elephant, camping amid a group of 500 hippos, and having his lunch stolen by a vervet monkey.
Jacobs also will discuss issues that are affecting these species in the wild and what zoos in both the United States and Africa are doing to save threatened wildlife.
