Business Students Score High on National Test
Indiana University South Bend’s School of Business and Economics undergraduates scored in the top 5 percent this spring in the Educational Testing Service (ETS) test.
The test measures knowledge in accounting, economics, management, quantitative business, finance, marketing, business law and international issues. It contains 120 multiple choice questions and many are based on diagrams, charts and tables of data. The questions, which are constructed by faculty experts, are designed to measure a student’s knowledge and ability to apply facts, to use concepts and analytical methods.
Thirty-seven students were required to take the test at IU South Bend.
IU South Bend and 358 other colleges and universities participated in the testing. The average score for all the participating institutions was 151. The IU South Bend score was 164.6.
In addition, students who tested in various disciplines also scored from the top 5 percent to 25 percent.
The master’s of business administration program also participated in the ETS. This was the second year for the graduate tests and there were 41 graduate programs participating. The mean score was 254.7, out of a possible 300. Sixteen IU South Bend students took the test and their average score was 259.2. This placed the students in the top 35 percent of the business schools.
Asghar Sabbaghi, associate dean of the School of Business and Economics, said this is external assessment of the business programs and reflects the quality of the programs and graduates.
