IU SOUTH BEND NAMES MEN’S BASKETBALL COACH

Full-time Position Signals Commitment to Athletics

For the first time in its history, Indiana University South Bend has a full-time men’s basketball coach.

IU South Bend announced today that Micah Shrewsberry will lead the men’s basketball team next season. Shrewsberry is currently the director of basketball operations for Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. Marshall is a member of the NCAA Mid-American Conference (MAC).

Shrewsberry becomes the Titans first full-time head coach. Jim Parent served as a

part-time head coach for the IU South Bend men’s team the past three seasons. Shrewsberry will begin his duties on July 1.

“Athletics and student life are important at IU South Bend,” said Chancellor Una Mae Reck. “A full-time coach is an important step in the growth of our athletics program.”

“This is an exciting time at IU South Bend,” said Jeff Walker, executive director of athletics and recreation. “Micah is a good fit for the future of the team and the program.”

Prior to his duties at Marshall, Shrewsberry was an assistant men’s basketball coach at DePauw University for two years where the Tigers compiled a record of 42-12. He was also an assistant at Wabash College and the University of Indianapolis.

Shrewsberry is a native of Indianapolis and a graduate of Hanover College where he played basketball and served as a tri-captain in 1998-99. He earned a master’s degree in sports management from Indiana State University.
