Pat Ames was recently named vice chancellor for information technology at Indiana University South Bend. Prior to coming to South Bend, Ames was director of academic facilities and classroom technology at California State University, Fullerton.
The vice chancellor of information technology manages the division that provides technology support. IT is responsible for the campus networking infrastructure (cabling, servers, data storage, etc.), telecommunications (including video conferencing), instructional technology (classroom multimedia equipment), computing labs, administrative computing support (computers on the desks of all faculty and staff), and end-user training for faculty and staff.
Ames received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree in business administration from California State University, Fullerton; a master’s degree and her doctorate from Claremont Graduate University, Claremont, Calif. She is originally from Utah.
In addition to her years in academia, she also worked in private industry in accounting and real estate development. She also was an owner of a Web-based computer graphics business.
In her new role, she will help IU South Bend develop an information technology vision and long range plan for the campus and increase funding. “The campus is not as advanced as it could be. My goal is to move (the campus) up the technology ladder.”
