Author Cathy Bao Bean will speak on identities, families and life at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, in the fifth floor atrium of the Schurz Library, Indiana University South Bend.
Bao Bean will read from her humorous memoir, “The Chopsticks-Fork Principle: A Memoir and Manual.” In the book, she gives her perspectives on being a mother, wife and daughter. She came to the United States when she was four years old from China and grew up in Brooklyn and New Jersey.
She married artist Bennett Bean and they raised their son, William, to understand both cultures – Chinese and American. The book looks into cultural and generational differences she has learned along the way.
A book signing and reception will follow. Copies of The Chopstick-Fork Principle will be available for $15 each and may be purchased with check or cash. The China House Restaurant is donating the food for the reception.
The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Franklin D. Schurz Library, Student Government Association, English Department, Alumni Affairs, and the Office of Public Affairs and University Advancement.
