Race and the Indiana brain drain will be topics of the next Indiana University South Bend Town Hall Meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, in the campus Student Activities Center.
The town hall will be divided into two panel discussions. The first will be a discussion of what is being done to keep minority graduates in the area. The panelists will be: Indiana House Speaker B. Patrick Bauer, Christine Richardson, director of IU South Bend Career Services and campus project director of the Lilly Brain Drain Grant; Alma Powell, senior scientist with Educational Development Center, Newton, Mass.; and Charles Pittman, senior vice-president of newspapers, Schurz Communications.
The second panel will be young professionals and their Indiana careers. The panel member will be Mishawaka Mayor Jeff Rea; Marcus J. Barlow, field representative for U.S. Rep. Chris Chocola; Claudia Leyva, claims representative with the Social Security Administration; and Vaughn McClure, sports writer, South Bend Tribune.
The moderator is Keith Carter from WSBT-TV.
The event is free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by the Office of Campus Diversity, Political Science Department and the South Bend Tribune.
