Indiana University South Bend is offering two new master’s degree programs this fall – the Master of Arts of English and the Master of Arts in teaching English. The degrees are geared for working professionals in the fields of education, advertising, public relations, news media, research and editing.

Both are two-year degrees for full-time students and require 36 credits hours. Adjusted courses of study are available for part-time students. Twelve credits will be from core classes. Students may concentrate in literature, writing, creative writing or teaching. Both offer training in production, analysis and teaching of literary texts.

The master’s in teaching English degree provides a more specialized option for certified teachers seeking additional credentials.

Both fields of study will offer valuable skills to employers who require writing and analytical skills, text analysis, computer-assisted writing, teaching, literacy studies, research and editing.

Applicants are required to have a bachelor’s degree in English or related field from an accredited institution, a grade point average of at least 3.0 and must take the Graduate Record Exam.

There are 17 graduate programs offered at IU South Bend.

Application deadline for admission for the fall is May 31. The fall semester begins Aug. 30. Applications for admission for the spring semester must be submitted by Oct. 31.
