Students, faculty and staff are invited to take part in a public forum to discuss tuition and fees with the Indiana University Board of Trustees. The forum will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 23.
The forum will be at IUPUI but all the campuses will be linked to the teleconference. IU South Bend’s site is Northside 113 (seating capacity 149).
Please respond if you plan to attend the conference by e-mail to Vice Chancellor Ilene Sheffer at isheffer@iusb.edu.
Trustees are expected to act on the tuition rates at their April 2 meeting.
Everyone is encouraged to send questions by Web-form prior to and during the event at tuition@indiana.edu. Or for more information visit www.indiana.edu/~tuition.
Indiana Gov. Joseph Kernan is urging Indiana’s public colleges and universities to hold tuition increase to no more than 4 percent next year for in-state undergraduates and graduate students. Kernan suggested that higher educational institutions hold at least one public hearing on proposed tuition and fee increases at least 30 days before the trustees approve them.
President Adam Herbert said, “The board and I are committed to facilitating broader public discussion on matters related to tuition and fees. We want to develop a more transparent process, particularly on issues of such importance to students and parents. This forum will include a budget discussion on topics such as how our costs affect tuition rates.”
Chancellor Una Mae Reck said it is important to present comments and concerns to the Indiana University Board of Trustees.
