Women's Studies Research Conference

March 14, 2008

Women's Studies Research Conference at IU South Bend

In celebration of the 20th year of the women's studies research conference, Indiana University South Bend will be the site of the All-IU Women's Studies/Gender Studies Undergraduate Research/Creative Activity Conference.

"From Strength to Strength: Celebrating Our Founders, Celebrating Our Students" will be March 27 and 28.

Forty-five students from across the state will be giving papers on a wide range of topics.

The conference will begin with a discussion on the topic of leadership and women at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 27 in Wiekamp Hall. The panelists will be Laurie Burns McRobbie, wife of IU President Michael McRobbie; Una Mae Reck, IU South Bend chancellor; and Sandra Petronio, professor of communications at IUPUI.

Peg Brand, wife of former IU President Myles Brand, will be the moderator.

The women will discuss what it means to be a leader in a local academic community as well as within IU; how to balance the demands of family, work and university and achieving goals.

Patricia McNeal, professor of women's studies at IU South Bend, will deliver the keynote speech, "Women's Studies: The Pathway to Success," at 1 p.m. Friday, March 28, in Room 1001, Wiekamp Hall.

The panel discussion and the keynote are free and open to the public.
