IU South Bend Faculty Receive 2005 FACET Award
Four Indiana University South Bend faculty members were selected to received the 2005
Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching award. A total of 23 faculty members from all the IU campuses were honored.
South Bend FACET honorees are: Catherine Borshuk, assistant professor of psychology; Deborah Marr, assistant professor, biology; Monika Lynker, associate professor, physics and Astronomy and Sara Sage, associate professor, secondary education.
They join a distinguished group of IU faculty members who have been chosen annually since FACET’s inception in 1989, bringing FACET’s current membership to a total of 446 faculty members.
FACET awards are presented to IU faculty members who have demonstrated their exceptional commitment to teaching and learning through areas of self-evaluation, course preparation, research, instructional skills and student impact.
The new FACET members, along with the 2005 recipient of the P.A. Mack Award for Distinguished Service to Teaching, will be honored before a group of University administrators, trustees, FACET alumni, and special guests at the 17th annual FACET Retreat, which will be May 20 through May 22 at Pokagon State Park in Angola.
FACET, an IU Presidential initiative, is designed both to recognize and enhance outstanding teaching throughout the IU system and to promote continued development of teaching excellence among colleagues at IU and beyond.
In recent years, FACET’s efforts have expanded both at the campus level and statewide. FACET activities planned for 2005 include the Leadership Institute, Associate Faculty Conference, Future Faculty Teaching Fellows conference in partnership with RUGS; and further efforts to establish the Mack Center at Indiana University for Inquiry on Teaching and Learning.
FACET members have also created popular publications. These include: Quick Hits, More Quick Hits, Quick Hits for New Faculty: Successful Strategies by Award-Winning Teachers, and Quick Hits for Civic Engagement, to be in press July 2005; Peer Review of Teaching CD-ROM, which is in production; and the FACET Choir Video: What’s a Teacher For? The Nurturing No-Nonsense Classroom available from Films for the Humanities and Sciences.
