CTS DONATES $475,000 TO IU SOUTH BEND

SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS

GIFT CREATES CTS CENTER FOR EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION

CTS Corporation, through its foundation, has donated $475,000 to Indiana University South Bend for the creation of a unique learning program for students in the School of Business and Economics. The funding will create the CTS Center for Experiential Education, which is designed to actively engage students in authentic learning experiences that will complement their traditional education.

"The support CTS is providing will impact every business student at IU South Bend studying either at the South Bend campus or the new Elkhart Center," said Robert Ducoffe, dean of the School of Business and Economics. "The CTS Center for Experiential Education will allow us to develop new techniques and strategies that engage students and encourage them to take greater responsibility for their own learning."

The CTS program will focus on funding for annual scholarships; an annual CTS student competition focusing on applications of knowledge and skills; identifying organizations in the community that would benefit from student involvement through internships, co-op programs, service learning, research projects, study abroad and consulting projects; funding faculty development of courses and experiential learning exercises; developing business roundtables that periodically bring executives to South Bend and Elkhart to discuss business issues with students; the creation of a resource library of experiential learning materials; the ability to seek additional funding via matches, partnerships and grants that would not previously be available; and, the appointment of an academic director to lead the CTS Center and advance its goals. The CTS Center will begin providing activities for students in the fall 2007 semester.

"We deeply appreciate the commitment and confidence CTS has shown in the School of Business and Economics," said Una Mae Reck, chancellor of IU South Bend. "The CTS program will seed a transformation that will enhance the relevance of our undergraduate and master’s business degree programs."

"IU South Bend plays a vital role in the education and economic vitality of the Michiana area," said James L. Cummins, senior vice president administration and vice chairman, CTS Foundation. "This grant will enhance the educational experience at the School of Business and Economics and provide financial aid to area students."

"The CTS Center for Experiential Education will create a unique learning environment and provide opportunities for collaboration between local industry and academia," said Vinod Khilinani, senior vice president and CFO, CTS Corporation. "We look forward to working with the faculty to make this an outstanding forum for development and growth of students who will provide the workforce of the 21st century."
