Muniz Releases Two CDs and Receives Two Commissions
Jorge Muniz, assistant professor of music at Indiana University South Bend, recently released two CDs of his music and received to commissions for works.
The first work, "Cantos del Emigrante" (Songs of the Emigrant), was recorded in the summer of 2006 in Spain with the composer at the piano. It was released in January in Spain.
The second CD is "Romances de Moro Qil." It is a double CD featuring Muniz's selection of five medieval romances portraying the life, love and adventures of a Moorish warrior, Moro Qil. These romances feature a solo soprano, a tenor, a baritone, a mixed chorus and an instrumental ensemble.
The work was presented in two concerts in December in Spain.
Muniz has been commissioned by the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, New York City, to compose a new choral for the church's 100th anniversary. The work will be performed this fall by the choir of Corpus Christi.
He also received a commission to write his Fourth String Quartet to premiere at the New Music Festival of Salamanca, Spain, in March 2008.
Muniz was a member of the Manhattan School of Music theory faculty. Since 2006, he has been an assistant professor of music composition and theory at IU South Bend.
