Indiana University South Bend employee Diana Szilagyi recently received the monthly client award from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. Szilagyi, who is an auxiliary services staff accountant, was hired by IU South Bend in August.
The award was presented to her by Chancellor Una Mae Reck and Dean Davis, career counselor with Workforce Development.
Davis said the award recognizes a Workforce client who has used the services of the agency and has achieved recent success at getting a job.
Szilagyi was downsized out of her last accounting job and was unemployed for a year. She had been an accountant for 30 years and has an accounting degree from the University of Texas.
She was using the computer lab doing independent research for a job at the Workforce Development offices in South Bend when Davis inquired about her job search.
Davis worked with her as a counselor to refine her resume and her interviewing techniques.
“Workforce was a big help to me and I got the interview at IU South Bend within a month,” Szilagyi said.
