The Indiana University Alumni Association is having a celebration of the 150th anniversary of its founding with a two-day party at Indiana University South Bend. The events, which include food, music, a touch of education and fellowship, are planned on Nov. 19 and 20.
It will begin with a chancellor’s reception and banquet from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, in the Associate’s Building, Ruskin Street. Following the dinner, IU’s two a cappella groups, Straight No Chaser and Ladies First, will perform at 8 p.m. in Northside Hall auditorium.
The Saturday, Nov. 20, events will begin at 10 a.m. with two Mini-University lectures in Room 1001, Wiekamp Hall. Political science Professor John Lewis will analyze the national political scene. Patrick J. Furlong, history professor emeritus, will speak on the history of Indiana and IU.
The Friends of the Schurz Library will have a fiction-only book sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, in the Student Activities Center.
From noon to 1 p.m. there will be a family tailgater at the Student Activities Center. At 1 p.m. watch the IU South Bend’s men’s basketball team play the University of Saint Francis from Joliet, Ill. Or watch the IU-Purdue Oaken Bucket football game on the big screen.
Saturday evening there will be a mixer at the Oaken Bucket restaurant, corner of Ironwood Drive and Northside Boulevard.
The cost is $45 per person or $75 a couple for the Friday evening reception, banquet and performances. The Saturday events are free. Reservations for the banquet must be made by Nov.12. Tickets for the concert are $5 and may be purchased at the door.
For your registration fee, guests will receive a one-year IU alumni association membership or a one-year extension to current memberships.
