Green Up! Step It Up! Rally in South Bend
An environmental rally will bring college students from three of the area's college campuses to downtown South Bend. Green Up! Step It Up! will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4 at Indiana University South Bend, the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College.
The students, Michiana residents, members of the local Green organizations and government officials will meet at the Jon Hunt Plaza in of the Morris Performing Arts Center. Congressman Joe Donnelly is expected to speak at 4 p.m.
The march from the IU South Bend campus will begin at the peace pole located in front of the Schurz Library and will continue along the river walk path, crossing the Colfax Street Bridge to the Morris Performing Arts Center.
The public is invited to join the IU South Bend students at the peace pole at 3 p.m. or the plaza at 4 p.m.
This is part of a national Step It Up – One Sky movement to combat global warming by calling for a reduction of carbon emissions, a moratorium on new coal-fired plants and the creation of green jobs and initiatives in hundreds of communities from Florida to Alaska this same weekend.
