Students from Indiana University South Bend’s Peace and Justice Coalition will have a tribute to the 1,200 U.S. and international service personnel who have been killed in the war in Iraq.
The student group is placing 1,200 construction paper light bulbs on small sticks in the mall lawn near the Schurz Library. The tribute will be set in place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25.
Terri Vega, who is with the president of the coalition, said the theme for the day is “Bright Lights That Have Been Extinguished.”
Vega added that there will be a visual impact because of the number, along with a reminder of the skills and talents that have been lost.
The next day, from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 26, in the library’s third floor conference room, the student coalition will have a discussion on the One Book, One Campus book “War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning.” Participants from different majors, such as political science and history, will discuss the book
The discussion is free and open to the public.
