Psychology Professor De Bryant and four Indiana University South Bend students will share their experiences about their grassroots summer project in Durban, South Africa, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, in the auditorium of the downtown St. Joseph County Public Library, 304 S. Main St.
“We Aren’t in Kansas Anymore! What We Learned on Our Trip to South Africa” will detail their work with Durban citizens and their research in art, poetry, religion and the social structure of the city.
The four students are part of the Social Action Project (SOCACT) at IU South Bend. SOCACT, which uses social science research to understand social changes, began in 1999 and operates in South Bend and Benton Harbor. Members of SOCACT visited Durban that year and citizens of Durban visited in 2000.
Bryant said the students will share their experiences and take questions.
The event is free and open to the public.
