Fall enrollment at Indiana University South Bend showed growth and consistency in several categories. The campus has it largest new student class in its history – with 1,566 new transfers and first time freshmen. This is a 2 percent increase from fall 2005.
There are a total of 2,065 freshmen on campus. A freshman has between 0 to 25 credit hours for that class standing.
Total enrollment and credit hours remain consistent. There are 7,420 students this fall, which is less than a 1 percent decrease; and credit hours stand at 69,981, which is slightly less than 2 percent change from last fall.
IU Bloomington enrollment increased this fall but by less than 1 percent but total enrollment system-wide stands at 97,959, down from 98,542 last year.
Enrollment increased at IU South Bend in all under-represented student categories – with 21.7 percent increase in Hispanic enrollment and nearly a 4 percent increase in African-American students. In real numbers, there are 505 African-American students and 269 Hispanic students. The total minority population is 12 percent.
The traditional-aged (18-24) undergraduate student body is roughly 64 percent of those seeking an associate or bachelor's degree.
Enrollment at the Elkhart Center of Indiana University South Bend showed strong numbers for the fall of 2006. Enrollment is currently 643 students. They are enrolled in 2,806 credit hours, which is a 19 percent increase over last fall's credit hours of 2,356.
The projected enrollment for the year is expected to top 1,800 for Elkhart.
There was also growth in enrollment at the Plymouth location with 108 students enrolled this fall. Credit hour enrollment also increased in Plymouth with 412 hours this fall, up from 312 hours last year. That is a 32 percent increase.
