Hammes Information Commons to be Dedicated
The new Hammes Information Commons in the Franklin D. Schurz Library at Indiana University South Bend will be dedicated at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23.
The ceremony will include remarks from Chancellor Una Mae Reck, Library Director Michele Russo, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Alfred Guillaume Jr., and Dorene and Jerry Hammes. A plaque will be unveiled in honor of Mrs. Hammes.
The Hammes's presented the lead gift for the remodeling of the area that will now be the commons.
Mr. and Mrs. Hammes have lived in South Bend for more than 55 years. They both have been active in community service, philanthropy and volunteerism.
Located in the former reference room, the commons allows students a one-stop place to work with groups or as individuals on research projects and multi-media presentations. The area has 46 computers with a full range of software and an adaptive technology room with software such as Kurzweil, Open Book and Dragon Naturally Speaking Professional.
