Decio and Deputy to Receive Chancellor's Medal
Two long-time business leaders and philanthropists, Art Decio and Bob Deputy, will receive the Chancellor's Medal from Indiana University South Bend on October 11. The reception will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Associates Building, Ruskin Street. Invitations have been mailed.
Decio and Deputy were instrumental in spearheading the campaign to build the IU South Bend Elkhart Center. Through their efforts more than $4 million was raised in private donations and the center was opened for classes in late August.
Decio is former chairman, president and CEO for Skyline Corp., Elkhart. Currently, he is a non-officer chairman and director of Skyline. He joined the small welding company in 1952 at the age of 22.
The company grew and is now a leading national producer of manufactured housing. Today it has 21 operating companies building manufactured housing and towable recreational vehicles in 11 states.
Decio has received presidential appointments to three national commissions and has served on board of more than 40 civic, religious, educational, business and financial organizations, including the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Special Olympics International and the National Junior Achievement Board.
Decio has been involved with IU South Bend for more than 24 years including his work on the advisory board and the steering committee for the Elkhart Center.
He has received more than 40 awards including the Distinguished Auxiliary Service Cross from the Salvation Army, the E.M. Morris Award from IU South Bend and the Herman B Wells Visionary Award from IU.
Deputy was president and CEO of Godfrey Marine until his retirement in late 2006. He has been involved in numerous civic activities including the National Association of Boat Manufacturers, Elkhart Chamber Foundation, Ruthmere Foundation and Coachman Industries.
He has been a member of the IU South Bend Advisory Board, Elkhart Center steering committee and the Elkhart Chapter of the IU Alumni Association. Deputy is a life member of the IUAA and received the Armstrong Award from IU South Bend for 1996-97.
