Indiana University Anthropology Professor Frederika Ann Kaestle will look at the human race’s extended family tree at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, in the Alumni Room, Administration Building, Indiana University South Bend.
Kaestle, who studies prehistoric Native American population movement and DNA, will speak on “Parting the Mists of Time: Who Were the Neanderthals and Does Their DNA Walk Among Us?”
The talk is free and open to the public.
Kaestle is taking part in a two-day Freshman Honors Colloquium that will examine DNA, forensics, genetic ethics and population movement.
Kaestle is an assistant professor in anthropology, adjunct assistant professor in biology and fellow of the IU Molecular Biology Institute. She formerly was assistant professor in anthropology at Yale University.
She received her bachelor’s from Yale, master’s and her doctorate from University of California, Davis.
