Orientation is a time of transition not only for the students, but also for those individuals closest to the student, whether they be parents, grandparents, legal guardians, spouses, or significant others.
We invite you to accompany your student to the orientation program. There will be a special session devoted particularly to parent/family issues. You will hear about many of the services available at IU South Bend to assist your student, as well as from various faculty, staff, and students about the transition to the university environment.
In the afternoon, students will be meeting with their academic unit to learn more about their chosen major and register for classes. At IU South Bend, we feel it is very important that students begin their collegiate experience using an independent approach. Therefore, with the exception of
Division of Nursing and Health Professions, the academic unit programs are limited to students only. Parents and guests will have the option of staying on campus for additional information sessions (including a campus tour) or returning to campus later to pick up their student.
When your student reserves their spot for orientation, they
should indicate the number of guests that will attend with them.
