Step Three: Take Your Placement Exams

Before registering, new students must take placement exams in reading and mathematics. An English placement exam is required for some, but not all, students.  Click here for information on determining if you need to take this exam. The exams are offered on the South Bend campus, at the Elkhart Center, and in Plymouth. (Click here for maps and directions.) Transfer students should refer to their admissions packet to determine which (if any) of these exams are required.

Placement exams are administered by the Office of Student Services. There is no cost to take the exams. Appointments are necessary for the computerized exams only. Bring #2 pencils, a ball point pen, calculator, and photo identification. Please arrive 10 minutes early as late arrivals are not seated. If you have questions regarding the placement exams, please contact the Office of Student Services by e-mail at sos@iusb.edu or call (574) 520-4135.

Click here for complete placement exam information and the current schedule.

Incoming students who have studied French, German, Japanese, and/or Spanish are encouraged to take the world languages exam for placement purposes. Click here for information.
