Students that are transferring in 26 or more credit hours (sophomore status) follow the steps below:
- Be admitted to IU South Bend
If you have not already done so, you must apply for and be admitted to IU South Bend.

Contact the Office of Admissions by e-mail at admissio@iusb.edu,
or by calling (574) 520-4839, if you have questions about
applying for admission to IU South Bend. You may also complete
their Information Request Form.
- Activate your IU computer account.
Go to onestart.iu.edu (If
you are using a slower connection, you may want to use
OneStart Lite.) and click on “Don't have an account?,”
which is located in the big gray box on the left side of the
page. Once activated, you will use your
OneStart account to register for classes, check your
placement exam results, view
financial aid information, and much more.
When activating your account, you will be asked for your
10-digit student identification (ID) number. Refer to your admissions certificate for this number.
- Take any required
placement exams.
Check your
admissions packet to see if you are required to take any of the
placement exams. Depending on the classes you are transferring, you may be
allowed to waive one or more of the exams.
- Register for classes
Transfer students are allowed to register for classes prior to orientation. Once you have
completed any required
placement exams, contact your academic unit to set up an advising appointment.

can direct you to the correct academic unit.
- Attend Orientation

Dismissal times for transfer students vary depending on
your assigned academic unit. Refer to your welcome packet for this information.
