The last Dean’s Seminar in the 2000-2001 series will be held on Friday, 20 April 2001. Faculty from the School of the Arts will present, “Applied Research in Theatre Production: Understanding the rise of Hitler and the Holocaust through Drama; the Indiana University South Bend School of the Arts Theatre Area’s production of Tony Kushner’s A Bright Room Called Day.”  We will meet in the Main Theater in Northside Hall at 12:00 noon (after the Senate meeting).  Coffee will be available and you are welcome to bring your lunch.

Proposals for the SMART Undergraduate Summer Fellowship are officially due on March 26, 2001, but since I will not be here on the 26th if the proposals are to me before 4/2/01 (preferably electronically) they will be accepted. NEH - Humanities Focus Grants
Funds may be used to pay for guest scholars and visiting consultants, for investigation of model programs, for books and other materials, for logistical support, and especially for released time so that participants to have the time to read, think, write, and deliberate.

Museum Loan Network - The purpose of the Museum Loan Network (MLN) is to make objects of cultural heritage more accessible and understandable to the public by encouraging collecting institutions to share these works over extended periods of time. US Department of Education - SBIR
Phase I Topics
SBIR is a highly competitive three-phase award program. Phase I is a feasibility study to evaluate the scientific and technical merit of an idea. Proposals are evaluated based on published criteria by panels of expert reviewers. Awards are for periods up to six (6) months in amounts up to $60,000.

NSF - CISE Educational Innovation Program
The objective of this program is to stimulate innovative educational activities at the undergraduate level in the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) disciplines by encouraging the transfer of research results into the undergraduate curriculum.

00-7 New Assistant Vice President for Research
As of June 1, 2000 Steven A. Martin was appointed as Assistant Vice President for Research. All proposals are submitted in the name of Indiana University with the
exception of agencies such as the Lilly Endowment, which are required as a condition of eligibility to be submitted in the name of the Indiana University Foundation.

NSF Releases New FastLane Instructions
It has been nearly six months since all proposals to the National Science Foundation were required to be submitted electronically using FastLane. Now that the "kinks" have been worked out, NSF has released a comprehensive, 70-page guide on how to use Fastlane.
