• The Ameritech Fellows Program has announced a new deadline of September 9, 2002. This program intends to provide support for faculty demonstration projects in the effective integration of information technology for campus and distance education. • The Indiana University Undergraduate Research Conference 2002 will be held on the IUPUI campus on 8 November 2002. More information and iPDF forms can be found at http://www.iusb.edu/~research/smart/iuurc/iuurc.html. Please encourage your best and brightest students to participate.
• IRB CERTIFICATION TESTING: No new protocols or continuing reviews will be accepted from investigators that have not passed the IRB Certification Test.  IU has developed an on-line certification program that meets federal standards.  If you plan to be involved in human subjects research at IUSB you should take this certification test as soon as possible at http://www.iupui.edu/~resgrad/Human%20Subjects/HumanSubjectsCourse.html .

9/30/02	Canadian Studies Grant Program The Canadian government is particularly interested in projects that focus on the diverse aspects of Canada-U.S. relations. Priority topics include bilateral trade & economics, Canada-U.S. border issues, cultural policy and values, environmental, natural resources, and energy issues, and security cooperation (in alphabetical order). 10/1/02	American Philosophical Society - Franklin Research Grant This is a program of small grants to scholars in order to support the cost of research leading to publication in all areas of knowledge. Candidates must not have had a financially supported leave at any time subsequent to September 1, 1999. 02-7 Legal Name/Authorized Signature on Contract and Grant Documents The official name of the institution on all contracts and grants should be "The Trustees of Indiana University." The official authorized to sign agreements for the university is Mr. Steven A. Martin, Assistant Vice President for Research.

02-6 Retirement and Fringe Benefit Rates Update This Important Notice announces retirement and fringe benefit rates effective July 1, 2002.  Please begin using them immediately on all proposals submitted.  Benefits are pooled and all persons are charged based on object codes and not on benefit entitlement.  Non-student hourly personnel employed more than 1000 hours annually are covered by the PERF retirement plan. 

02-5 Facilities and Administration Cost Rate  Facilities and Administrative Cost Rates have been established for the period of July 1, 2002 through June 30, 2004 at 50.5%.  The 1.5% difference between the new rate and the current rate of 49% will be held in Bloomington to "increase investments in the overall research effort including those associated with the expanding compliance requirements."

02-4 Routing of Sponsored Projects Documents Indiana University requires that all proposals to external agencies requesting funds and/or committing University resources (e.g., personnel, space, funds, equipment, etc.) are to be reviewed and signed by an authorized University official.
