  • The Ameritech Fellows Program has announced a new deadline of September 9, 2002. This program intends to provide support for faculty demonstration projects in the effective integration of information technology for campus and distance education. More information can be found at http//amfellow.iu.edu/
  • The Indiana University Undergraduate Research Conference 2002 will be held on the IUPUI campus on 8 November 2002. More information and iPDF forms can be found at http//www.iusb.edu/~research/iuurc.html. Please encourage your best and brightest students to participate.
  • IRB CERTIFICATION TESTING: Keep in mind that after July 1, 2002 no new protocols or continuing reviews would be accepted from investigators that had not passed the IRB Certification Test.  IU has developed an on-line certification program that meets federal standards.  If you plan to be involved in human subjects research at IUSB you should take this certification test as soon as possible at http://www.iupui.edu/~resgrad/Human%20Subjects/HumanSubjectsCourse.html .

Lumina Foundation for Education: Our work must be focused to be effective. Therefore, we will concentrate its national funding efforts in three theme areas:
  • Addressing the issue of financial access to postsecondary education.
  • Supporting efforts that help postsecondary students identify appropriate options and remain in school to attain their educational objectives.
  • Understanding and addressing the challenges faced by nontraditional students, including adult students, first-generation college goers and under-served groups of students.

Lindbergh Foundation: Each year, The Charles A. and Anne Morrow Lindbergh Foundation provides grants of up to $10,580 (a symbolic amount representing the cost of the "Spirit of St. Louis") to men and women whose individual initiative and work in a wide spectrum of disciplines furthers the Lindberghs' vision of a balance between the advance of technology and the preservation of the natural/human environment. http://www.lindberghfoundation.org/grants/index.html

The Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation is accepting applications for grants to support research in the chemical sciences. The grants are to be used by faculty members at undergraduate colleges to appoint and pay fellowships to recent Ph.D. recipients, who will perform research with the nominating faculty member and also teach. http://www.dreyfus.org/sf.shtml

WOMEN'S INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE COLLABORATION (WISC) PROGRAM
2001-2003 This program provides grants to individual US scientists who plan to establish new research partnerships with their colleagues in Central/Eastern Europe, the Newly Independent States of the former Soviet Union, Near East, Middle East, Africa, the Americas, Pacific, and Asia.

Canadian Studies Grant Program
The Canadian government is particularly interested in projects that focus on the diverse aspects of Canada-U.S. relations. Priority topics include bilateral trade & economics, Canada-U.S. border issues, cultural policy and values, environmental, natural resources, and energy issues, and security cooperation (in alphabetical order). In addition, projects that examine Canadian politics, economics, culture, and society as well as Canada's role in international affairs are welcome.

02-4 Routing of Sponsored Projects Documents Indiana University requires that all proposals to external agencies requesting funds and/or committing University resources (e.g., personnel, space, funds, equipment, etc.) are to be reviewed and signed by an authorized University official.

02-3 Retirement and Fringe Benefit Rates This Important Notice announces retirement and fringe benefit rates effective July 1, 2002.  Please begin using them immediately on all proposals submitted.  Benefits are pooled and all persons are charged based on object codes and not on benefit entitlement.  Non-student hourly personnel employed more than 1000 hours annually are covered by the PERF retirement plan.  NOTE:  These rates are contingent on final approval from the Division of Cost Allocation of the Department of Health and Human Services as a part of the University’s negotiation on Facilities and Administrative Costs.

Federal Business Opportunities Replaces Commerce Business Daily
Federal Business Opportunities has now been designated as the single point of universal electronic public access on the Internet to Federal government-wide procurement opportunities that exceed $25,000. Beginning January, 2002, the FBO replaced the Commerce Business Daily (CBD), and effective January 4, 2002, the Department of Commerce ceased publication of the CBD. http://www.fbodaily.com/


New Area Code Now in Effect
Beginning today, the area code for the IUSB community changes from 219 to 574. Please update your records. For the next six months only, callers will still be able to get through using the old 219 code. However, we encourage you to start using the new 574 code immediately.
