8/15/03	John F. Kennedy Library Foundation - Kennedy Library Research Grants Each year in the spring and fall, The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation provides funds for the award of a number of research grants in the range of $500 to $2,500. The purpose of these grants is to help defray living, travel, and related costs incurred while doing research in the textual and non-textual holdings of the library. 9/15/03	Indiana Humanities Council Humanities Initiative Grants Grants may be used for any public humanities program, with participation from a humanities scholar. Eligible projects include workshops, exhibits, film or book discussions, historical presentations, educational materials development, and more. 9/15/03	Program Evaluation of Kellogg Fellows Leadership Alliance - The W. K. Kellogg Foundation provided a three-year $1.64 million grant (expiring in June 2004) to the University of Maryland’s Academy of Leadership to serve as the incubator for the first three years of the Kellogg Fellows Leadership Alliance (KFLA). As we move forward to becoming an independent organization in July 2004, an independent evaluation of the KFLA will provide a road map for developing the next phase of organizational growth.	http://www.kelloggfellows.org/About/evaluationRFP.html

10/1/2003	NEH 2004 Summer Stipends - Summer Stipends provide individuals with an opportunity to pursue research in the humanities that contributes to scholarly knowledge or to the public's understanding of the humanities. Projects should be completed during the tenure of an award or represent part of a long-term endeavor. 03-4 Accounting for Cost Share This Important Notice is being reissued as there has been a change in the procedure to distribute cost share expenditures to the cost share sub-account. Additional information regarding cost share can be found in OMB Circular A-110, section 23.

Other News

A revised version of the NSF Grant Proposal Guide (GPG) (NSF 03-041) has be published. It will be effective for proposals submitted on or after June 1, 2003. This document supercedes all prior versions of the GPG and can be accessed at: http://www.nsf.gov/pubsys/ods/getpub.cfm?gpg. This revision implements a number of important changes to NSF policies and procedures.

COS Enhances its Funding Opportunities and Fundling Alert Services
The Community of Science (COS) has recently made some improvements to its Funding Opportunities and Funding Alert services to make it easier to construct and run funding searches. Specific changes include:

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES - A set of radio buttons now allow you to select whether searches will "Match all", "Match any", or "Exclude All" of the selected terms have replaced the AND/OR/NOT select lists. This will allow users to more reliably set up searches in which they need to use "AND", "OR", and "NOT", especially in the same search.

FUNDING ALERT - Funding Alert has also been updated so that searches can be modified and added using the match all/match any feature. Additionally, the search set-up process has been simplified. The "basic" search interface has been removed; users may now more easily construct a search using a variety of fields.

IRB CERTIFICATION TESTING: In February 2002 the IUSB IRB decided that after July 1, 2002 no new protocols or continuing reviews would be accepted from investigators that had not passed the IRB Certification Test. IU has developed an on-line certification program that meets federal standards. If you plan to be involved in human subjects research at IUSB you should take this certification test as soon as possible at http://www.iupui.edu/~resgrad/Human%20Subjects/HumanSubjectsCourse.html .
