that have been received by my office in the last month or so. A more comprehensive list of current funding opportunities
can be found on the IU Granstlink.
You can also search for funding opportunities using keywords from COS.

Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) is pleased to offer 18 International Faculty Development Seminars in June and July of 2003. These 1-2 week intensive overseas programs are specifically designed for university faculty and administrators in an effort to help stimulate initiatives towards internationalizing curricula. The seminars are hosted by overseas academic institutions and feature lectures, coordinated study tours, and opportunities to meet with scholarly communities abroad. More than 2,200 academics have participated on the seminars since 1990. We have updated the seminars to reflect current global issues and added four new seminars in Costa Rica, New Zealand, South Korea, and Taiwan. Other seminars being offered include: Australia, Brazil, China, Croatia, Cuba, Hungary and the Czech Republic, India, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Senegal, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, and Vietnam. | www.ciee.org/seminars. |

02-11 NSF Cost Share Policy In accordance with Federal requirements, NSF requires that each grantee share in the cost of research projects resulting from unsolicited proposals (proposals that are submitted to NSF, but not as a result of a direct solicitation from the NSF). According to the NSF Grants Policy Manual, the grantee will meet the statutory requirement by cost sharing a minimum of one percent on the total costs of all NSF-supported projects requiring cost sharing. (Generally, IU has met this requirement by cost sharing the effort of the Project Director).

NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION (NSF) RETURNS PROPOSALS FOR NON-COMPLIANCE WITH FORMAT REQUIREMENTS
The National Science Foundation is strictly enforcing proposal guidelines and has returned proposals without review where guidelines as published in the NSF Grant Proposal Guide (NSF 03-2) were not followed exactly.
Some examples:
Project Summary must clearly address in separate statements (within the one-page summary): (1) the intellectual merit of the proposed activity; and (2) the broader impacts resulting from the proposed activity. See the Grant Proposal Guide for complete instructions.
Font size, margins and page length continue to be scrutinized by NSF for nonconformance. Be aware that a 10 point font may still have a type density which exceeds the 15 characters per 2.5 cm. allowed.
Collaborators listed on the Biographical Sketches pages must list the institution of the collaborator. Follow the detailed instructions provided in the Grant Proposal Guide.
Biographical Sketch should include no more than ten publications.
***Please read and follow the NSF Grant Proposal Guide (NSF 03-2) carefully.
The Guide is available in both PDF and HTML versions:

IRB CERTIFICATION TESTING: In February 2002 the IUSB IRB decided that after July 1, 2002 no new protocols or continuing reviews would be accepted from investigators that had not passed the IRB Certification Test. IU has developed an on-line certification program that meets federal standards. If you plan to be involved in human subjects research at IUSB you should take this certification test as soon as possible at http://www.iupui.edu/~resgrad/Human%20Subjects/HumanSubjectsCourse.html .
Research and Sponsored Programs has been tracking our common questions regarding the Protection of Human Research Subjects? Concise, direct answers have been posted to a new web page giving specific information regarding:
