 Recent Funding Opportunities

This is a very short, unrepresentative list of funding opportunities. It only reflects those hard copy RFPs that have been received by my office in the last month or so. A more comprehensive list of current funding opportunities can be found on the IU Granstline. You can also search for funding opportunities using keywords from COS.

Internal funding deadlines are 4 February 2000 and 7 April 2000. Guidelines can be found at http://www.iusb.edu/~research/RDComm.html.

IU now subscribes to the Community of Science/Community of Scholars database system. This is an internet site for faculty and researchers in all disciplines (not just the sciences) to find funding, promote their research, and collaborate with colleagues. This system will be replacing the SMARTS grant notification system. I will keep you posted as more changes occur.

NSF Now Requires Scanning Documents in Three Upcoming Programs
The National Science Foundation will require that the proposal cover sheet certifications page in three upcoming programs be scanned into the FastLane proposal and submitted electronically. These programs are:

  • the Professional Opportunities for Women in Research and Education (POWRE), with a deadline on December 9, 1999;
  • the Information Technology Research (ITR) program with a deadline of February 14, 2000; and
  • the Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) program due January 18, 2000.

The MRI program also requires several other documents be scanned into the FastLane proposal. Among them are the institutional letter on cost sharing, the listing of price goals, and optional letters of industrial partnership.

The Federal Grants News reports that after a recent test of various methods of scanning, one university found that scanning the forms as graphics (rather than text) "produced the most properly formatted documents."
