Searching for Funding Opportunities
 

The key to using on-line databases is "keywords."  Keywords are basically the subject areas and constituency groups you can relate to your project. They can be matched electronically or through books and directories to keywords supplied by grantors.

Use this list to develop a set of keywords for your tailored specifically to your organization and project.
 

On-Line Searchable Sources

  • Community of Science - Subscription service database of funding sources.
  • SPIN
  • Grants.gov - Grants.gov allows organizations to electronically find and apply for competitive grant opportunities from all Federal grant-making agencies. Grants.gov is THE single access point for over 900 grant programs offered by the 26 Federal grant-making agencies.
  • Catalogue of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) - The online Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance gives you access to a database of all Federal programs available to State and local governments (including the District of Columbia); federally-recognized Indian tribal governments; Territories (and possessions) of the United States; domestic public, quasi-public, and private profit and nonprofit organizations and institutions; specialized groups; and individuals.
  • TRAM TRAM is a service initially developed by the Texas Research Administrators Group (TRAM). This page provides you a list of links to foundations, research funding agencies, and other funding sources on the internet. You can search on solicitations, request for proposals, and program descriptions from various agencies. The data for the search engine is updated daily.
  • Federal Register - A daily government printing office (GPO) publications containing federal regulations, public laws, and presidential documents..
  • Federal Business Opportunities - FedBizOpps.gov is the single government point-of-entry (GPE) for Federal government procurement opportunities over $25,000.

Indiana Grantmakers Alliance The Indiana Grantmakers Alliance, a membership association serving Indiana's grantmaking community, is dedicated to fostering responsible and creative philanthropy for the public good. The Alliance acts a catalyst for philanthropic action by providing information and education, by facilitating communication and collaboration, and by encouraging new opportunities for giving and volunteering.

CharityChannel is perhaps best known for its non-profit arena discussion forums.  Join more than 40,000 of your colleagues on e-mail forums discussing such topics as grants and foundations, the law of tax exempt organizations, college and university advancement, health care philanthropy, arts and social organization fund raising, international fund raising, mentoring, and more.

Foundation Center - The Foundation Center is an independent nonprofit information clearinghouse established in 1956. The Center's mission is to foster public understanding of the foundation field by collecting, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating information on foundations, corporate giving, and related subjects. The audiences that call on the Center's resources include grantseekers, grantmakers, researchers, policymakers, the media, and the general public.
