FIRE
Upon discovering a fire or smoke in the building:
Shout FIRE!
Alert people in the area to evacuate
Activate the nearest fire alarm.
After sounding the alarm, leave the building through stairway exits. Close doors as you leave.
The alarm may not sound continuously. If the alarm stops, continue the evacuation and warn others who may attempt to enter the building after the alarm stops.
DO NOT USE ELEVATORS DURING A FIRE EMERGENCY.
Leave the building and move away from it, leaving walks and drives open for arriving fire fighters. Proceed to a prearranged safe area to take roll call.
Someone familiar with the situation should meet campus police personnel or the fire department, if possible.
The Elkhart Fire Department will be in charge of the emergency situation. Everyone must follow the orders of the Fire and Police Departments when they arrive.
Notify firefighters on the scene if you suspect someone may be trapped inside the building.
